The
techniques used for renal procurement depend mainly on whether the
donor is a live donor or a cadaveric donor. If it is a cadaveric
donor the procedure is different depending on whether we are removing
the kidneys only (isolated renal procurement) or the kidneys together
with other organs (multivisceral procurement). We will first describe
the technique used in living donor nephrectomy. Then, we will turn
our attention to the cadaveric nephrectomy, covering both the removal
of the kidneys alone and removal of the kidneys with other organs.
Lastly, we will briefly comment on the latest innovative surgical
technique – laparoscopic donor nephrectomy.
